Barrett gets his boot in at Buckingham Palace
Two of England's oldest amateur clubs - Civil Service FC and Polytechnic FC - took to the pitch marked out in the Queen's garden for a competitive amateur league fixture. Prince William arranged the game partly to honour the work of hundreds of thousands of volunteers who give up their time so that millions of people can play football every week. Before kick-off, Prince William, who helped to organise the match, shook hands with the players including our very own Mr Barrett! Mr Barrett plays regularly for Polytechnic FC and his team beat their rivals 2–1. Mr Barrett was honoured and delighted to play in this special match. He was especially thrilled at half time, when Palace footmen - donned in tailcoats - came onto the pitch carrying orange slices, Mars bars, water and orange juice on silver-plated trays. Mr Barrett will be signing autographs in the playground after school this week!
