CtS Boys Swarm to Brentford Tournament
The Boys’ Football Squad recently went en masse to represent CtS at the Kinder+Sport Football League Kids Cup Under-11 competition at GOALS, Osterley, run by Brentford F.C.
With CtS entering 2 teams, every member of the squad was given the chance to represent the school in at least 4 games in the group stages. Unfortunately, those who had not represented the school before (the ‘B’ team in name only) let the occasion get to them and they struggled to play as a team in their games and didn’t make it out of their group. However, experience of the ‘A’ team shone through as they progressed through the group stages playing their usual brand of high-tempo, possession-based, carpet football.
After recovering from a heavy knock early on, Goran showed his true value to the squad as an exemplary leader and clutch player; scoring in the round of 16; the quarter finals (along with Max); and both goals in the semi final for a 2-0 win. Things didn’t go according to plan for CtS in the finals though as, despite early pressure and missed chances, the team never really hit full stride and were beaten 2-0 by Mount Carmel. Congratulations to them and good luck in the next stages of the Tournament. CtS also had a chance to quiz Brentford F.C. 1st team players Moses Odubajo and Andre Gray, who spoke about the need to be technically proficient, humble and willing to listen and learn to make it as a professional player - invaluable advice for any profession.
Playing in a different format to the regular clusters was a great learning experience for all the players involved and it was fantastic to see the boys represent the school for the first time, with Edmund, Milos and Ben doing particularly well for their team.
The ‘A’ team played with their usual panache and calm assuredness throughout the tournament, with captain Goran managing team selection and formation throughout. Despite being upset with the final outcome they remained gracious and dignified in defeat and were brilliant role models and ambassadors for the School. A huge thank you to Brenford FC CST for running the tournament. Great effort, boys!
