Gunpowder, Treason and Plot

This morning Guy Fawke's was put on trial by 6SZ as we learned the history behind the celebration of 'Bonfire Night'.

With confidence and humour the Year 6 pupils retold the story of how Guy Fawkes and his co-conspirators plotted to blow up the King and the Houses of Parliament on 5th November, 1605.

Thwarted in their plans, Guy Fawkes and his associates met a gruesome end, and Parliament introduced the 'Observance of 5th November Act' which enforced an annual public day of thanksgiving for the failure of the plot and the saving of King James I. So that's why we celebrate November 5th!

Do go to our gallery to see glimpses of the great costumes and exciting drama, and as 6SZ wished us all, have a very happy, and very safe, bonfire night!
