Pupils commemorate the 75th Anniversary of the destruction of St Saviour’s Church

Pupils, parents and staff gathered around the spot where the alter was before the Church was destroyed.

To commemorate the 75th Anniversary of the destruction of St Saviour's Church (during the Blitz on the night of the 15th/16th November 1940) pupils on the Grove Site said prayers in the playground after Mass this week.

Father Andrew showed us where the alter used to be (marked by a cross in the playground) and showed us the hard hat that Father Aglionby wore on the night the Church was destroyed.

Have a look in the Grove Site back playground. Can you spot the very old lamp post that was outside the church 75 years ago and avoided the bombs?

The destruction of St Saviours led to the creation of the joint parish. Father Aglionby was the first vicar of Christ the Saviour Church.
