Y3 at the Poppy Factory

Year 3 pupils enjoyed learning about the origins of the Remembrance poppy and how Major George Howson MC founded The Disabled Society to help disabled ex-servicemen and women back into work. He helped to set up a small factory on Old Kent Road where the the first British poppies were made. The poppies were designed so that they could be easily assembled by someone who had lost a limb. Demand for the poppies grew and a larger factory was established in Richmond.
