Year 2 make anderson shelters

Published

This term we have been investigating what we remember on Remembrance Sunday. The children learnt about different aspects of World War One and of memorial services. In English we studied the book ‘The Lion and the Unicorn’ and how it encapsulates the idea that the nation was encouraged to be brave and resilient.

We learnt about the life of a child who lived in Ealing and stayed there during the war. He sometimes visited the public air raid shelter in Lammas Park, he had a morrison shelter in his kitchen and also occasionally used his neighbours anderson shelter during raids. We made our own miniature anderson shelters and thought about what we would keep inside.
