Year 5 St Paul’s Cathedral Remembrance Visit

Year 5 studied memorials at St Paul's Cathedral
Year 5 creating their abstract memorials

Year 5 had the opportunity to explore the Cathedral focussing on its many memorials and famous tombs to ask the question ‘How do we remember people after they have died and why?’
They looked at the role of the visual arts in the Cathedral and examined artworks, both historical and contemporary, that explored themes of remembrance. These included artist Gerry Judah’s colossal WWI memorial installations and the WWI altar frontal currently on display that was lovingly embroidered by surviving, severely injured soldiers as part of their rehabilitation in hospitals throughout the UK. It was a thoroughly enjoyable day.
