Year 6 Explore the Effects of Global Warming

Published

As part of our whole school Science Day on global warming, pupils in Year 6 carried out an experiment to help them understand the impact of climate change.

Working collaboratively in groups, pupils made an island and populated it with model villages and people. The island was then surrounded by water to represent the sea. Pupils noted the level of the sea water before adding a large 'iceberg' to their tray. Throughout the morning, as temperatures rose in the classrooms, the icebergs melted. Pupils watched as the sea levels rose and their carefully constructed islands became water logged; buildings collapsed and once-solid islands began to disintegrate and disappear into the sea.

It was a fantastic way to help us all understand the impact that climate change is having on our world.
