27 Jan Powerful Descriptions in Year 6
Our Year 6 are hugely enjoying this term’s text – David Almond’s ‘Skellig’. The children are currently part way through the text and are wondering what will happen next to the adventurous Mina and Michael who have befriended a strange, other worldly creature that lives in an abandoned garage. Last week the pupils’ sketched their vision of the derelict garage and created a frame made of their descriptive words which included some of the following:
On the right of this ocean of debris lay a neglected spanner, begging to be used once more.
Cobwebs, powdery and white, gripped the splintered window frame, refusing to let go.
In the fading light, the distinct smell of dusty, damp leather wafted through the thick air; it tickled their nostrils and made Mina sneeze uncontrollably.
What amazing writing Year 6!
