05 Feb A Healthy Balance with Technology
As part of our PSHE curiculum and online safety learning, this week Year 5 has been fortunate enough to welcome Papaya into school to do a workshop called ‘Me and My Screen.’
Papaya is an organisation that promote wellness and improved mental health in adolescents by helping young people achieve a healthy balance with technology. In the workshop the children discussed the advantages and disadvantages of the internet and how it has changed our world over the years. The children looked at some interesting statistics around the amount of screen time they may be having and how long this could equate to in their whole lives. Did you know that the average 12 year old in the UK spends 3 hours and 48 minutes a day online? That means that if they live to be 80 this would equate to 11 years and 67 days of online screentime!
It was great food for thought for the children and has enabled them to reflect on their screen time choices in the future. All the children left with top tips for how to have a healthy relationship with the technology in their lives – we hope these provoke interesting and helpful discussions in your family homes this week Year 5!
