12 Mar Grove Lunch Fun
Recently, we have had a little change to lunchtimes at the Grove site. We have changed our table set up AND introduced a delicious new salad bar!
Year 2 trialled our new table set up two weeks ago and it was a roaring success! Now, two class sit and face one another in a much more sociable table plan. The pupils let us know that they loved being able to chat to friends from different classes across the table – we even found that the lunch hall was quieter, with more pleasant chit chat. Year 1 have tested these seating positions out this week too and have also really enjoyed it.
Chef Joe and his catering team have also spoiled us with a delicious daily salad bar. Now, on top of their healthy and nutritious lunches including spaghetti bolognese, curry and sausages, pupils in year 1 and year 2 can top up their plates with a colourful array of salad including sweetcorn salad, lettuce, cucumber and olives (which have proven to be a popular choice!). We are so proud to see children choosing to visit the salad bar. Plates are very satisfying and colourful, as you can see from the photos.
The staff are enjoying space to sit and eat with the students too. Conversations are definitely flowing and pupils are working on their manners. We are currently supporting children to use their knife and fork effectively – especially on rice and sausage days – working with the children on scooping, using a knife on the fork, and cutting.
Pupils are working on clearing and stacking their plates too. We have been so impressed with their drive to support the catering team and get involved to keep their school clean and tidy. Year 2 even love to help clean away at the end of lunch.
We look forward to more rainbow plates and excellent lunch conversation going forwards!
