02 Mar Ash Wednesday
We had a special service in Church today to mark Ash Wednesday, a day that starts the period of Lent when we remember the sacrifice of Jesus and do things to draw closer to him.
Pupils and staff were invited to receive the sign of the cross on their foreheads marked with ash to remind us all that we carry the cross of Christ with us. The cross is made from the ash of burned palm leaves and it is mixed with holy water.
Our pupil worship team, Year 6 servers and choir supported this very special worship.
Every pupil has taken home a Lent calendar with some ideas to help them use this time of Lent to draw closer to God.
During Lent, we will learn about the temptations Jesus faced whilst in the desert for 40 days and 40 nights. We pray that we will have the strength not to give in to temptation and always to do God’s will.
Dear Heavenly Father,
Help us to say no when we are tempted to do wrong,
Help us to stand up for other people when we see wrong things happening to them.
Thank you that you are always with us and you will always give us the strength to say no.
Amen
