Foundation Subjects

Home > Curriculum > Foundation Subjects

In this section you will find information on our foundation subjects that supplement our core curriculum to provide a rounded education.

Art

Explore
Intent: We aim to provide all pupils with a varied, exciting and stimulating art education which allows pupils to express themselves visually and develop their confidence in all aspects of the subject. Through studying the knowledge, methods and techniques used by artists throughout our global world, pupils are able to understand, use and adapt a whole variety of art and design processes to develop their own artwork and create personal outcomes in creative and meaningful ways.

Design Technology

Explore
Intent: In design and technology pupils are taught to design and make products that solve real and practical problems and that meet needs in the world around them. Pupils are taught the process of investigating and researching; designing and planning; producing and evaluating. This enables them to become creative, resourceful and capable global citizens with practical skills and imaginative solutions to the problems they may face.

Geography

Explore
Intent: We want to develop pupils’ love and fascination for the people, places and processes that make up our diverse community and environment. Our aim is for pupils to gain a rich knowledge and understanding of the global world, using a range of practical skills to help them explore the human and physical features around them.

History

Explore
Intent: At Christ the Saviour, we want to inspire pupils’ curiosity about the past and give them an understanding of how relevant history is to their lives in a global world. Pupils will gain a secure chronological knowledge of local, British and world history. We want them to be able to ask questions about the past, to experience and interact with objects and locations of historical significance, evaluating sources and forming their own understanding of the story of history.

Computing

Explore
Intent: We want children to experience a broad and dynamic computing curriculum that works across diverse platforms and exposes pupils to the most current technologies. With online safety at the forefront of our curriculum, pupils are prepared to be technologically aware and computer literate learners in an ever-changing digital, global world.

PSHE

Explore
Intent: In PSHE we aim to create an inclusive and open-minded space where pupils are able to learn how to become good role models and citizens of the world. Pupils are given opportunities to learn skills which will help them develop into confident, resilient and respectful young people who are able to make good, thoughtful choices. Pupils are taught about ways to keep themselves and others safe as they learn how to form healthy, positive relationships both within their immediate community and the wider world.

Music

Explore
Intent: We aim to provide an enjoyable and challenging music curriculum which gives pupils the opportunity to sing, play, create and perform, both individually and collaboratively. Developing musicianship skills, through active music-making and exposure to a global range of music, gives pupils a wide understanding and appreciation of music and feeds into their own creativity and self expression. Pupils become confident composers, creators and performers with an understanding of musical notation, the skills to critically evaluate their own and others’ performances and a passion to learn about and share their love of music.

Physical Education

Explore
Intent: At Christ the Saviour, we want children to develop competency and hone the necessary skills to become lifelong participators in sport and physical activity. Our curriculum educates, improves and sets pupils up for an active and healthy lifestyle by teaching about the relationship between physical activity and good health and by providing opportunities to engage in a wide range of physical activities. Our curriculum values pupils' social and emotional development, ensuring that all pupils are able to gain confidence, raise their self-esteem and become active, healthy citizens.

Languages

Explore
Intent: Language teaching at CtS aims to awaken curiosity and deepen pupils’ understanding of the world around them. Pupils are given opportunities to communicate for practical purposes, learning to understand and respond to speakers and communicate facts, feelings and ideas confidently. Vocabulary and grammatical structures are taught through a balance of written and spoken language, providing a secure foundation for the study of further foreign languages in pupils’ next stage of schooling.
