Welcome to Nursery! We have over 60 children in our thriving nursery class and we offer a variety of options including full-time and part-time places. Our curriculum is carefully timetabled to ensure pupils who attended different sessions get a full curriculum offer.

Welcome to Nursery

Key Dates for the start of term:

Nursery parent interviews will take place in the week beginning Monday, 7th September. These will take place in the Nursery building at the Grove Site. Please bring your child with you to help familiarise them in their new learning environment.

Nursery Welcome Days:

Monday, 14th September

AM children 10:00am – 11:00am

FT children 1:00pm – 2:00pm

Tuesday, 15th September

Flexi 1 children 10:00am – 11:00am

Flexi 2 children 1:00pm – 2:00pm

Our Nursery children will have a staggered start from Thursday, 17th September.

EYFS framework

EYFS means Early Years Foundation Stage. Our children are encouraged to access a range of learning opportunities throughout the day. In the Early Years Foundation Stage children learn best when they experience learning first hand, through meaningful interactions with others, through physical activity and through play. There are seven areas in the national Early Years Framework.

The three prime areas of learning:

  • Personal, social and emotional
  • Communication and Language
  • Physical

The four further areas of learning:

  • Literacy
  • Mathematics
  • Understanding the world
  • Expressive arts and design

Teaching in the Nursery

Teaching in the nursery is organised through a range of approaches and provides a balance of child initiated and adult-led activities:

  • Planned focused activities where adults work with a small group of children at a time. Teachers will differentiate the activity to meet the needs of every child participating.
  • Whole class teaching for short periods of time such as shared storytime, direct teaching, songs and rhymes, discussions and sharing of work.
  • Opportunities for teachers to work alongside children as they develop their own interests in particular areas of the curriculum.

Curriculum Overview

  • A curriculum map of the Nursery topics and themes is available here.
