20 Oct Black History Month
Over the past month we have been studying inspirational role models from the black community past and present. Each curriculum area in the school identified an inspirational individual from their field of study and children throughout the school, from Reception to Year 6, have been learning about their achievements. From the American poet Amanda Gorman, to the super scientist, Maggie Aderin-Pocock, from tennis stars like Serena Williams to Bishop Rose Hudson-Wilkin, from Michael Caines, the Michelin Star Chef, to the antiques expert Ronnie Archer Morgan – we have learned about a whole host of individuals who have encouraged and motivated us.
In our collective worship during the month of October we have been reflecting on the lives of three individuals who have spoken up for justice: Harold Moody, Mary Prince and Thurgood Marshall. We have learned about how they spoke out against injustice and advocated for change and we have taken the opportunity to reflect on how we can stand up for justice in our own school and community.
