20 Oct Year 6 visit RAF Hendon
On Tuesday 18th October, Year 6 visited RAF Hendon. The visit linked to our World War Two topic in Humanities, where we are learning about the impact of the Second World War on our local area. At RAF Hendon we took part in a workshop all about air raids and the Blitz and we were able to see some of the aircraft, like a Spitfire, that fought in the Battle of Britain. We were lucky enough to look at lots of artefacts, try on real RAF uniforms and we even took part in an imaginary air raid – we were shocked by how loud the siren was!
We loved having the chance to dress up as evacuees and we made our own evacuee identity tags. One of our Year 6 pupils shared at the end, “My favourite thing was when we went into the air raid shelter and the warden was with us because it felt like we were actually in World War 2! It felt so real.”
