Hockey Gold

On Friday CtS took teams to compete in two different hockey tournaments at St Augustine’s school. As pupils at the Broadway are currently learning hockey in weekly PE lessons it was a great opportunity for some of our UKS2 pupils to try out the skills they have been developing in a different competitive environment.

The tournament was a ‘quicksticks’ style event with special rules and proper sticks, so there was great excitement (and in some cases intrepidation!) at wearing the protective equipment of shinguards and gum shields!

It was a wonderful learning opportuity for those on the team who had not experienced playing a game with full hockey rules and proper sticks before. Ms Jolliffe was very impressed at how the players worked together and encouraged one another, adapting to different positions on the pitch and learning to sub on and off for each another.

Both teams won all their games, emerged victorious over all and were proud to arrive back at school with their medals. Well done everyone!
