07 Dec A Christmas Carol
This week our Year 6 classes went to the Rose Theatre in Kingston to watch an adaptation of a ‘Christmas Carol’. All the children recognised the famliar tale as they have been studying it in their English lessons this half term; it was fun to try and spot the differences between Charles Dicken’s story and this alternative musical version.
Everyone loved the musical numbers and Year 6 were inspired and impressed by the number of children acting in the cast. Year 6 all commented that seeing the stage show really helped them to understand the story more – Dicken’s novel can be a bit tricky to read because of all the archaic language!
When they were reviewing the show and were asked about their favourite character most pupils said at once, “Scrooge!”
Other favourites were the way the theatre presented the Ghosts, one pupil said, ” I loved it when the ghost of Christmas present popped out. All the characters were very good.” Someone else commented, “I really liked it – it was amazing! I really liked how they introduced the second spirit and I especially liked the ghost of Christmas yet to come.”
It really was such a thrilling experience to be able to enjoy the show together. Thank you Year 6 teachers and parent helpers for making the trip possible!
