20 Nov Zoo Visit!
Year One were delighted to welcome some visitors to the Grove last week!
As part of their Science topic, Animals Including Humans, Year 1 have been learning about herbivores, carnivores and omnivores and it was great to see some animals that belonged to these groups. We also met some Invertebrates and Vertebrates and even got to hold some of them. Did you know that classification means grouping? Well that’s what Year 1 learnt about!
Children met Barbara the frog, she had sticky feet and was able to hold onto the window. She was very good at jumping and was able to drink through her skin!
They also meant Sausage and Bean, who were two friendly gerbils, they had sensitive ears so we had to be very quiet!
Mr Jangles the cold blooded snake had tiny teeth. He was very soft and swallows his food whole without chewing it. He also has 450 bones.
Ozzy the cockroach had 2 brains, one his head and one in his bottom! He is a good eater and will eat almost anything – including poo!
Finally, Year 1 met Cinnamon the tarantula who had a hairy bottom and 48 knees.
Everyone had a fabulous time meeting and holding or touching some of the animals – it really did bring all the science learning to life!
