18 Nov Remembering Together
Last week, our Year 2 students had a meaningful experience visiting the local war memorial as part of their history unit. They have been learning about the significance of Remembrance Day, exploring life in the trenches during the First World War, and reflecting on how war has shaped past generations. They also learned about the poppy’s symbolism and the importance of national remembrance.
During their visit to the Ealing War Memorial, students practised their alphabet skills by locating soldiers’ names, including that of Alice Harman. Alice is the only woman to be named on Ealing War Memorial. She lost her life at just 24 years old in an accident at a munitions factory while supporting Britain’s war efforts.
Whilst visiting the war memorial, Year 2 placed a poppy wreath, said a prayer and observed two minutes of silence. It was a truly memorable visit for everyone involved.
