03 Oct Year 6 World War Two Day
This week our Year 6 pupils had a World War Two day to enrich their local history topic, Ealing during WWII. Our Year 6 pupils dressed up as evacuees, nurses and wardens and enjoyed a Blitz themed workshop that involved using a hand operated WW2 siren machine, carrying out ARP Warden duties such as sweeping incendiary devices and making simple bandages. Children also handled artefacts from the period including gas masks, ration cards and newspapers from 1939-45. One pupil shared,
‘Reading the ration cards and putting on a gas mask made me feel like I was actually there queuing up for powdered egg!’
A lot of learning through fun was had by all, during this hands-on experience which culminated in a team quiz with our pupils showing their wonderful learning from the era.
