12 Feb School Council Meeting
Our new, democratically elected school council representatives, attended their first school council meeting at the Grove Site today. The Year 6 school council reps facilitated discussions on their tables with representatives from each year group from year 1 to Year 6. The Year 6 reps had spoken in advance about how to encourage some of the younger children to participate if they felt nervous or shy. One of the Year 6 reps suggested it would be helpful to talk to anyone who was not contributing to the discussions quietly on their own (rather than in a big group) and volunteer to share their ideas to the larger group if that would make them feel more comfortable. As it happened, all year group reps were very confident and articulate and they were all able to contribute to the discussions and share their ideas!
After our welcome from Mrs Tramoni and introductions to all the new school council representatives, we shared what different year groups love about CtS this included:
The kind and caring staff
The variety of sport and games at lunchtime and the organised sports at lunchtime
The computing lessons
Celebrating the star of the week
Playing with our friends
Science experiments
Mass and singing
Our school plants
Talking and learning more about God
School trips
We then moved on to discussing how CtS could be even better. Our Year 6 school council representatives facilitated group discussions in a very mature way and encouraged the younger reps to expand on some of their suggestions to help our school improvement. Here are some of the ideas shared by our school council representatives:
Having a class pet
A change to the lunch menu e.g Jacket potatoes, shepherds pie, pasta with meatballs, burgers, more pizza toppings, brownies, a desert bar
We would like more plants around the school
Split gender toilets
More options in the sandwich bar like avocado and more vegetables
Votes for house treats
Football goals at lunchtime
Bring back dodgeball at lunchtime
Football instead of hockey tournaments
More non-uniform days or silly hair days
It was really good to have a discussion about some small ways we can make improvements to our school. We were very pleased with the sensible and well thought through contributions and Mrs Tramoni will share these ideas with Heads of Year, the catering team and our PE team and we will meet again next half term to share some of the changes we will make following the meeting today. Well done School Council!
