02 Mar Exploring the Windrush
This term Year 6 are exploring the Windrush Generation (1948-1971) through our History, English and Geography curriculums. The Windrush generation saw Caribbean citizens travel half way across the world to embark on a new life in Britain, partly as a response to help rebuild Britain post World War II. Fundamental to the learning, is the chance for parents whose relatives were part of that unprecedented phenomena, to talk to our pupils. These oral accounts will accompany the video and audio material already included in the term’s lessons. Here are some of our pupil’s thoughts:
‘Hearing what is was really like to be there is the best bit.’
‘I’ve so many questions to ask – this will make it more real.’
‘It’ll help me write a diary entry hearing their words out aloud.’
We are so looking forward to exploring this topic together with those in our community who experienced it firsthand.
