06 Feb Sharing Lived Experiences of Faith
In their RE lessons this half term, our Year 6 pupils have been studying Islam and considering the Big Question of ‘How does a Muslim show commitment to God (Allah)?’ As part of this learning, we had the pleasure of welcoming in Taymallah’s mum, who talked to the year group about Islam and what life is like for her as a Muslim. She was able to share her first-hand experiences and talked about what it means to her to be part of the Islamic faith. The children were then given the opportunity to ask her questions about Islam. The pupils asked lots of fantastic questions to help them understand more about what it feels like to fast and how Muslims prepare to pray.
“It was really useful to be able to ask her about her life experiences. She had even been on her pilgrimage to Hajj!” said one of our Year 6 pupils.
Another pupil shared, “I found it interesting that you start preparing to fast by starting to do it for a few hours when you are younger and then building up and up until you are then able to do the whole day.”
