At CtS we believe that teaching phonics in a structured way - starting with the easiest sounds and progressing through to the most complex sounds - is the most effective way of teaching young children to read and write.

Intent: At the heart of our curriculum, we aim for children to have a deep love of reading and a passion to explore a wide range of vocabulary and stories. Through enjoying  literature, our children develop efficient skills which equip them for the next stage of their lives beyond Christ the Saviour.

Intent: Through a foundation of reading, children develop into competent, skilful writers who can write for a variety of purposes and audiences, sparking interest and engaging the reader. At Christ the Saviour, writing is celebrated in the written form and through performance and spoken language.

Intent: We aim to provide our pupils with a varied, exciting and engaging mathematics education which establishes a foundation for understanding the world around them. Pupils will build fluency through frequent practice and application. Mathematical reasoning and the use of accurate vocabulary to explain and justify are integral to developing depth of understanding and form a key part of our teaching and learning culture. Problem solving provides pupils the opportunity to use and apply their understanding of mathematical concepts and builds resilience and perseverance.

Intent: At Christ the Saviour we want children to develop into religiously literate individuals who have an enthusiasm for RE, a sound knowledge of scripture and a deep understanding of how faith enriches their own and others’ lives. We aim for children to discover and explore their own beliefs and practices, as well as those of other worldviews and faiths. We want children to engage confidently in discussions about the meaning and purpose of life, becoming educated citizens in a world of diverse beliefs.

Intent: We want our pupils to recognise the importance of science and the value of scientists as citizens of a global world. Through the knowledge, methods, processes and uses of science, the pupils will develop vital skills to be able to ask, investigate and answer scientific questions. Pupils will experience a sense of excitement and curiosity about the world around them.
