20 Jan History comes to life in Year 5!
Last week, Year 5 celebrated their History learning from this term and had a great time during their special Viking and Anglo Saxon Day. As part of their interactive experience, the children dressed up and wowed us with their fantastic costumes. Many pupils wore traditional tunics, belts, brooches and furs (fake!).
During this time, the pupils learnt about ‘runes’, an ancient form of writing, then scratched their own runes into wax blocks. Justice (or injustice) was delivered in an Anglo-Saxon court, or Witan, where the children role played different parts. They also learnt about Viking mythology before making some amazing shields of their own, ready for battle. We were so impressed with the children’s work and it was a fantastic experience for everyone in Year 5!
