Year 5 have been developing their understanding of equivalent fractions this half term. It’s been great to see them using cuisenaire rods to help consolidate their understanding of this by building fraction walls. At CtS, we understand the importance of using concrete materials across all key stages to support and embed key mathematical knowledge.
The children then extended their understanding further by using these manipulatives to help show equivalence between mixed numbers and improper fractions. e.g. 1 3/4 = 7/4 or 2 1/3 = 7/3. Great maths work children!
