Reception: Number Composition

Reception have been learning about number composition, developing their understanding of how numbers are made up of smaller parts. The children have learned that numbers can be split and recombined in different ways.

This learning has taken place through indoor and outdoor play-based activities. Indoors, the children have used resources such as pom poms, counters, and fruit to explore how numbers are made. Outdoors, they have continued their learning through active play, using outdoor numicon and 5 frames to create numbers, and solve practical problems together.

These experiences have helped the children build confidence with numbers and develop strong foundations in maths.
