11 Nov Road Safety Week
Last week was our CtS ‘Road Safety’ week. Our school travel ambassadors introduced the Road Safety week in their fantastic assembly presentation; they reminded us how our school is situated in the middle of lots of very busy roads and we all have to follow the Stop, Look, Listen, Think road safety rules to help us cross safely.
During our Road Safety week our PSHE lessons focused on what it looks like to come to school safely. Younger children learned the ‘Stop, Look, Listen, Think’ road safety song and learned about the importance of simple things like holding an adults hands and making sure we walk on the pavement, even on our school street. Our school street is a low traffic zone but it is not a no-traffic zone, so there can still be vehicles on the school street when we come to school. At the Broadway site the classes talked about the pelican and zebra crossings which are situated on the roads around our school and how to use them properly, and our older children discussed the risks that are presented when people try and cross roads when they are distracted by their mobile phones or they have headphones in.
Parents we are grateful for all you do to model and reinforce these messages about road safety as you travel to and from school with your children – thank you.
