13 Oct Year 2 learn about Remembrance
This half term, year 2 are learning about Remembrance Day in their history unit. The children have explored what life was like in the trenches, learnt about the significance of poppies as a symbol of remembrance and reflected on the impact of war on previous generations.
Last week, year 2 students visited Ealing War Memorial to experience what would happen at a Remembrance Day service. During the visits, children placed a poppy wreath, said a prayer and observed two minutes of silence.
Year 2 have learnt that it was not only the soldiers who lost their lives during the war. We located Alice Harman’s name on the memorial. Alice is the only woman to be named on Ealing War Memorial. She lost her life at 24 years old in an accident at a munitions factory while supporting Britain’s war efforts.
This visit was a memorable experience and the children enjoyed the opportunity to reflect on the selfless service of the soldiers.
