07 Jul Year 2’s 3D Olympics
Year 2 had an action-packed maths lesson as they took part in their very own 3D Olympics! As part of the maths learning for this term we have been observing the different features of three dimensional shapes. Last week, the class carried out an obstacle course of five different maths challenges involving the exploration of a variety of 3D shapes. This included identifying the shapes, seeing if it were possible to balance a cone whilst walking, experimenting with the stacking of different shapes to see whether or not this is possible, and playing ‘guess the shape’ in teams, by giving each other mathematical clues to help the other team guess them correctly.
The event was filled with fun, excitement, and plenty of hands-on learning as children explored the wonderful world of 3D shapes in creative and active ways.
The children discovered that curved surfaces made all the difference! They worked together to sort and classify shapes based on their properties, using words like faces, edges, and vertices with growing confidence.
It was a fantastic, shape-filled day that helped bring geometry to life. Well done, Year 2!
