26 Sep Independent Travel to School
As our Year 6 pupils grow in independence some of them are starting to travel to and from school on their own. At Christ the Saviour we are not a local catchment school and some of our pupils travel long distances to get to school as the map above shows you. We discussed how this might increase the risks associated with travelling to school. We talked about all the different ways we can keep safe on our journeys to school and also how to plan when things go wrong, for example if a bus takes a different route or if a traffic light stops working. Year 6 pupils were reminded that staff are always at school if their journey home doesn’t go to plan and they should return to school so we can support them. We have been incredibly proud of the mature approach our Year 6 pupils are taking if they are leaving school with a red card permitting them to travel alone – well done Year 6 we are super proud of your growing maturity and independence!
The slides below show some of the areas we discussed as a year group to keep us safe and prepared for independent travel.
