10 Nov Year 2 Visit Our Local War Memorial
Year 2 have been learning in history about the importance of Remembrance. This week the Year 2 classes went on a trip to Ealing War memorial where they used their knowledge of the alphabet to find soldier’s names. The children were able to find Alice Harman’s name – the only woman listed on the memorial. Alice died in an accident at the munitions factory when she was only 24 years old. Alice is remembered on the memorial because she too lost her life in helping Britain to win the war.
After the Second World War, extra side walls and extra panels above the First World War names were added so that more names could be listed. In total 1058 Ealing residents are listed on the war memorial from World War One and 512 from World War Two.
Year 2 listened to the poem ‘In Flanders Field’ and said a prayer to remember and give thanks for the soldiers. It was a really special visit.
