Home Learning
Home learning should support our pupils’ excitement for learning and encourage them to become increasingly self-motivated and independent learners. It must be planned so that pupils rehearse, practise and consolidate what they have learned at school and help parents support and engage with their child’s learning.
Homework at Christ the Saviour emphasises daily reading with an adult, which is recorded in children’s red reading diaries. Red reading diaries and reading books should be brought into school every day. In addition, pupils are asked to learn their weekly spellings and number facts and in some year groups children are invited to consolidate their maths learning by completing maths questions. Some year groups use Edshed, an online platform to help children practice their weekly spellings. Other online platforms for home learning include Learning by Questions (LbQ) and Times Tables Rockstars. Some parents prefer for their child not to engage in online home learning and the content of the homework is also shared on our Google classroom for parents to download so they can help their child with this learning off line.
Parents are encouraged to use the knowledge organisers on their child’s year group page to engage children at home in discussions about what they are learning in subjects such as history, geography, science and R.E.
In KS2 pupils complete bi-weekly science homework to develop their independent learning and their practical and investigative skills.
Details of the home learning expectations for each year group and the days on which homework is due can be found on your child’s year group page.
