10 Dec Advent at Christ the Saviour
Some people think that Christmas is all about presents and Santa Claus. Well that is wrong! Christmas started around 2000 years ago when a young couple were about to have a baby that was predicted to be the son of God. The two of them went from inn to inn trying to find someplace for our saviour to be born whose name was going to be … Jesus! They searched the city, but nobody had any room apart from one innkeeper who took pity on them and let them use his stable and so the lord of our world was born.
The Christ the Saviour Advent Carol Service is a time of worship and celebration for the upcoming season of Christmas, when this baby was born. We were very proud to attend the Year 3/4 service on Tuesday and report back to you on what was a beautiful celebration.
It began in darkness, but beautiful candle light soon filled the vibrant church and the sound of the astonishing choirs echoed through the elegant church. There were prayers spoken by some of the pupils and our pupil worship leaders read verses from the Bible, giving details about every step of the nativity story.
It was wonderful to see so many parents enjoying this celebration together with our children. We spoke to some of the attendees afterwards. One of our parents, Mr Adams, said that he loved the choirs’ songs and he loved to hear the whole church singing together in harmony. His favourite song was Silent Night. Beatrice and Bertie’s mum echoed Mr Adam’s sentiments about the choirs and also said: “As a parent, it was very special to be back in the church celebrating Christmas with the CtS pupils after so long.” Mark Newton, from the London Diocese, who was also joining us, agreed that the best thing to see was the parents and children gathering together to worship side by side. We know that the students are just as happy for the parents to be back worshipping alongside them too.
The Year 5 and 6 Advent Carol Service will be held in church on Tuesday 14th December. We look forward to seeing any parents keen to worship alongside us then.
