10 Oct Exploring World War II
Our Year 6 pupils have really been enjoying their history unit on how Ealing was affected by the Second World War. Last week their learning was enhanced by a WW2 workshop; a visiting ‘ARP’ warden came in to talk to the children about the war and what it would have been like to experience the Blitz. He shared artefacts such as a baby’s gas mark and all the children got to hear the unpleasant sound of the air raid siren being sounded! The pupils enjoyed dressing up as evacuees, practised their bandaging techniques to help treate those injured in the air raids. and examined artefacts from the war period back in their classrooms.
In addition, last week, Year 6 visited the war memorial located in Ealing, as well as Ealing Abbey, to gain a better understanding of how the war impacted the local area. They studied the war memorial which commemorated the courageous Ealing soldiers who lost their lives serving during World War II and learned about the local impact of the Blitz which partially destroyed Ealing Abbey.
