24 Nov Year 2 History: Remembrance
Year 2 recently visited the Ealing War Memorial, to consolidate the learning they did for their history unit on Remembrance Day. The children were looking forward to seeing the war memorial and paying their respects to all of those who sacrificed their lives, so that we may live.
We found significant dates relating to WW1 and WW2, and spoke about Armistice day and its importance. The children were excited to find the name of Alice Harman, the only woman on the memorial, who died in an accident at a munitions factory.
The children helped lay their poppy wreaths we had made in class. After a wonderful class discussion the children said a prayer for all the fallen, and then held a 2 minute silence to commemorate all who made sacrifices for us. It was really heartwarming to see the young of today saying thank you to the young of yesterday.
