09 Jul 5AJ and 5HN Residential
It has been a very warm end to the Year 5 residential week! 5AJ and 5HN arrived yesterday and have done a great job at remembering how to be sun safe; lots of sun cream, sun hats and a full water bottle with them at all times for the frequent hydration breaks.
The lake activities have been the most popular, with lots of time to cool off in the water inbetween learning how to paddle board or kayak. Coordinating with your friends so that the kayak or paddlebaord goes in a straight line is a great team building opportunity where good listening and communication skills are crucial. When it all comes together the fun of gliding smoothly through the water makes all the effort worthwhile!
On the land the children have been enjoying the challenges of orienteering (do you remember which way is north?), archery and the climbing tower. The climbing tower, which gives amazing views of Croft Farm over the tops of the trees, has abseiling down one side and climbing on the other. When they get back, do ask the Year 5 children how close to the top they were able to climb and whether they were brave enough to abseil all the way down!
When they are not doing their busy schedule of activities Year 5 have been relaxing by playing chess and Uno in the shade; eating delicious meals in the lakeside cafe and having lots of fun watching all the wildife. There are lots of swans, geese and ducks, but we particularly like the dragonflies, the ducklings and the beautiful Painted Lady butterflies.
