Fantastic Football

On Friday 2nd October, a very talented team of Year 5 and 6 boys competed in the Advanced Football Competition at Gunnersbury Park, where they achieved a fantastic silver medal against some very strong teams.

Having played eight games across the day, the boys produced an outstanding run of results, winning six games back-to-back and keeping five clean sheets. Their impressive results included victories of 4–0 vs Gifford, 4–0 vs Holy Family, 4–2 vs St. Vincent’s, 2–0 St Joseph’s vs , 1–0 vs Perivale and 5–0 Vicars Green.

Their talent, determination and positive teamwork certainly did not go unnoticed, with teachers from other schools even comparing their style of play to the Spanish World Cup team!

With key contributions from every member of the squad, the boys went into their final game undefeated. They drew 1–1 with the eventual third-placed team, St Gregory’s, thanks to another excellent team goal.

This left Christ the Saviour in a straight shoot-out for the gold medal with St Raphael’s. In a closely contested final game, St Raphael’s eventually came out on top with a 2–1 victory, leaving our boys with a well-deserved silver medal.

The boys should be incredibly proud of themselves. They represented both themselves and the school with tremendous skill, determination and pride throughout the competition. What a fantastic achievement and well done to the team.
