14 May CtS Active Travel Week
We are delighted to let you know that next week, Monday 19th May – Friday 23rd May, is our CtS Active Travel week when we have a particular focus in school on encouraging everyone to come to school in healthy and active ways.
Our school Travel Ambassadors have created an assembly video telling the school community about the different ways they can come to school in Active Travel Week – the children have been watching the assembly in class this week and you can view it below:
Next week in class, the children will be discussing the benefits of using our cars less and involving active travel in our journeys to school. For example, if we use our cars less the area around our school will become less congested, less polluted and we can then all breathe cleaner air. We also get the chance to have healthy exercise on the way to school which means we arrive alert and ready to learn!
The children will also have an opportunity to collect a sticker on their Active Travel Bookmark each day, if they have included an aspect of walking or wheeling in their journey to school; it could be they are able to walk all the way to school, scoot to the bus stop, cycle to school or even skateboard!
For families who live further away from our school or who are not near a public transport link, doing ‘Park and Stride’ (where parents park safely away from the school gates and aim to do a 10 minute walk to school) is a great way for everyone in the family to get some exercise and for us to limit the traffic around our school site.
Do have a look at our Travelling to School page on the CtS website, which includes a map of the local area and highlights local streets where parents can park to ‘Park and Stride’. Active travel is an ongoing priority for our school, supported by our School Street at the Grove Site and our PTA fundraising which this year has paid for more bike stands and shelters at both sites as well as our Road Safety reflective keyrings.
We look forward to seeing everyone collect their stickers throughout next week!
