23 Oct Cross Country Success
On 2nd`October, 20 children from Year 5 and 6 attended the annual cross country meet at Horsenden Hill. The weather had been dry and so conditions were good – it looked promising for a very exciting race! The course was 1.5km in length and took place on two large hilly fields – running a race in a grass field, as opposed to a track or playground surface, was a new challenge for many of the children. Pupils from primary schools across the borough competed; the competition was split into four races with girls and boys in Years 5 and 6 each running in their own race.
The Year 5 girls’ race was first and all the girls did brilliantly to finish in a very good time. Next was the Year 5 boys’ race; the boys achieved good times, our first finisher achieving 8th place out of 100 participants!
It was then time for the Year 6 girls’ race, and again, all our girls finished in excellent time – a special mention to our fastest runner who finished in 11th place out of 150 runners! The day finished with the Year 6 boys’ race, and all five of our participants did extremely well.
With such a good team performance, Coach Bilal was very proud of the runners and such a good team performance. The announcement of the final results at the end of last week demonstrated this with a very well deserved third place out of the 28 schools who entered!
Well done CtS! We are so proud of your achievements!
