15 Jul Exploring Faith in our Local Community
As part of our final RE unit on understanding faiths in the local area, the Year 6 pupils had the opportunity to visit Sikh, Hindi, Buddhist and Jewish places of worship in and around Ealing. The children were warmly welcomed in each and enjoyed a tour of the building and an opportunity to hear about the way the people practise their faith in each place of worship.
“I discovered today that the Gurdwara in Hounslow and in Southall (by me) stay open 24/7. Siri Chand (our guide) said this community work is based on the Sikh value of getting involved in selfless service.”
“The Buddhist Temple was simple and calm. I learned that Buddhists don’t pray to God like I do but they do meditate to focus their thoughts and wishes.”
It has been a really valuable opportuity for pupils to gain an understanding of the different faiths that surround us in our local community.
