Key Stage 2 at Ealing Book Festival

Pupils in Key Stage 2 have recently enjoyed attending events organised by Ealing Book Festival at the University of West London. Year 5 and 6 went to hear Farhana Islem speak; Farhana is an author with a passion for story telling and empowering diverse voices. Her books, ‘The Misadventures of Mina Mahmood’ are funny, fiction chapter books aimed at age 7 and above and she is also the author of some picture books for younger children that celebrate families of Islamic heritage.

Year 3 and 4 children were privileged to hear a descendant of Emmeline Pankhurst, Kate Pankhurst, talk about her life as an illustrator and author of books such as ‘Great Women who Changed the World’. If you are looking for an engaging book that introduces children to some of the most influential women in history then it is a great read – with wonderful illustrations – on the lives of women such as Jane Austen, Rosa Parks, Mary Seacole, Frida Kahlo and of course Emmeline Pankhurst.

The sessions were truly inspiring for our budding illustrators and authors.
