16 Mar Learning through Drama: Active Travel
5AJ thoroughly enjoyed being part of the ‘Get Moving’ Parent Parking workshops run recently at CtS. Children learnt about the impact of our travelling choices on the environment as well as the importance of staying active and healthy. Over several weeks the children worked in small groups to create four short performances: cars vs walkers; freeze frames on the knock on effects of pollution; ‘Dragons’ Den’ style sections on buses, trains and bikes and then a final debate on whether walking or driving to school is better.
On the day of the performance it was lovely to see so many family members in attendance and the rest of Year 5 enjoyed the performance too. Using drama to explore how the way we travel to school impacts us, our community and the environment was a really active and memorable learning experience; some of our Year 5 pupils shared their views below:
I enjoyed the Dragons Den part the most as we got to make jingles and it was generally more fun. I liked the acting preparation, the games, the memory tests and things like that. – Maya, 5AJ
The one that I loved the most was the Dragons’ Den part – everyone made their own theme song; it was funny and enjoyable at the same time. I really liked it. – Riad, 5AJ
My favourite part was the performance because we got to show it in front of the parents. I liked my mum being there. I liked the Dragons’ Den part too. I’d like to do it all again in the future! – George, 5AJ
I liked acting out the arguing the most because it was funny. – Elisa, 5AJ
Thank you Year 5 for sharing all of your learning with us in such an engaging way.
