09 Mar World Book Day 2026
The pupils and staff had a wonderful time celebrating World Book Day last Friday!
World Book Day is always a lovely opportunity to celebrate the joy and wonder books and reading bring us. There were lots of activities planned across the school including a teacher swap – where all teachers swapped classes to read their favourite stories throughout the day. Year 1 had a book advent over the whole week, where pupils brought their favourite books in from home, wrapped them up and chose one to read across the week. Year 2 and 6 visited Waterstones in Ealing Broadway Centre to have a story from the thoughtful staff and got to choose their own books with their book tokens.
And, of course, there was an annual dress up day, which saw many staff and pupils dress up as some of their most beloved characters from their favourite stories. We saw Dog Man; Little Red Riding Hood, Granny and the little piggies; Alice in Wonderland and the Queen of Hearts; Matilda and the BFG;Â many beautiful princesses and brave knights; the Love Monster and even Sherlock Homes!
We hope that parents, pupils and staff felt inspired to pick up their books, new or old, and read together. Our parent reading advocate, Mrs Allen, prepared a helpful handout which was shared via email last week. Look to this if you’d like any recommendations for authors who have written for both adults and children.
Our teachers have also shared their current adult recommendations to support your own reading journey:
Mrs McHugh recommends My Family and Other Animals by Gerald Durrell
Mrs Larson recommends Willie, Willie, Harry, Stee: An epic short history of our kings and queens by Charlie Higson
Mrs Simpson recommends The Women by Kristin Hannah
Mrs Goodman recommends Water Moon by Samantha Sotto Yambao
Mrs Harris recommends Circle by Maggie Shipstead
Miss Reid recommends Brother, Do You Love Me by Manni Coe
Miss Zubel recommends The Nightingale by Kristin Hannah
Mrs Nicholl recommends James by Percival Everett
