12 Jun Year 6 Explore Oil Spills
For World Environment Day, our Year 6 pupils learnt about the impact that oil spills have on the oceans and the creatures’ habitats who live there. The children carried out an experiment where they were attempting to separate oil from water using different methods to test the effectiveness of these and which worked best. The children found that the spoons and sponges were the best to clear the oil, however they appreciated how much of a challenge it was and the mess that oil creates!
Reika shared, “It was impossible to remove all the oil which made me think about the long term impact this could have on the environment.”
Iris added, “It definitely helped me understand how difficult it easy to clean up oil spillages.”
Joe also shared, “I think Science Day was so fun! I think the tissue worked the worst because it absorbed the oil and water together. It was nice that we all got to have a go at the experiment and it was interesting to learn about oil spills.”
