08 May Year 1 at the Farm
Year 1 have very much been enjoying learning about farms in their geography lessons this term; as an extension of their learning this week they visited the Hounslow Urban Farm.
Hounslow Urban Farm is London’s largest community farm that offers daily encounters with its resident animals, such as pigs, goats, cows, rabbits, ducks, geese, alpacas, proud peacocks and lots more. It was an incredibly enriching experience!
As the children arrived they were greeted by the friendly animals on the farm, eager to be fed and petted. The children were given buckets of feed and were encouraged to feed the animals, from the curious goats to playful sheep. They enjoyed feeling their rough tongues as they nibbled at the feed in their hands.
The children were then treated to a show of farm and exotic animals, where they watched in awe as skilled handlers introduced them to some furry and cuddly animals as well as the crawling ones. They learnt about the unique characteristics of each animal and how they are cared for on the farm.
As the day came to a close, the children left with a newfound appreciation for the animals they interacted with and the importance of farming in their daily lives.
A great day out, plenty of fun and fresh air! We all enjoyed our day!
