25 Mar Year 4 Science Explorer Dome
Year 4 had a fantastic opportunity earlier this term to experience the digestive system hands on inside the Explorer Dome! All the children participated in a 45 minute workshop starting with a short crawl through the tunnel to get inside the interactive dome. The workshop showed the journey of food from our plates all the way through our digestive systems through the use of lights, sound and some very realistic hands-on activities.
All the children thoroughly enjoyed the session, and it was a great opportunity for them to embed and deepen the learning they have been doing this term on how humans and animals eat and digest food. The interactive nature of the workshop allowed pupils to make meaningful connections between their classroom learning and real-life processes, helping to bring key scientific concepts to life in an engaging and memorable way. Many children demonstrated excellent curiosity, asking thoughtful questions and showing a strong understanding of the different stages of digestion. It also supported the development of their scientific vocabulary, as they confidently discussed the role of saliva in breaking down food and the functions of different organs within the digestive system. A huge thank you to Explorer Dome South East for running such wonderful workshops for all the children, and for providing an experience that has clearly had a lasting impact on their learning and enthusiasm for science.
