26 Mar D.T. Battle Bots
Our Year 5 classes have had a fantastic time developing their D.T. and ICT skills this week. Each class had a half day robotics workshop, ‘Battle Bots’, where the children built and programmed sensor-based robots, then applied that knowledge in robo battles! This especially helped the pupils to develop their technical knowledge and apply their understanding of computing to program, monitor and control their products.
The children worked in small groups to build their own robots, which included a motor and sensors. After that, they created some block code to program their robots before racing them against one another. The children had a lot of fun and learnt a great deal!
Oscar said, “The workshop was fun. We weren’t just making robots, we had to program them too. Our robot could move around and see if it was close to something and protect itself from crashing by moving away.”
Olivia added, “I loved the workshop because it taught us how to programme and build cool robots. I could see the behind the scenes of building a toy and we had freedom to explore the tools and mechanisms inside a robot.”
