02 Jun TfL Citizens
On 21st May, TfL Citizens came to speak to our Year 6 pupils and teach them the tools for safe and responsible travel on public transport. We know that starting secondary school can be both exciting and nerve-wracking for pupils and a big change for many of them is the way they travel to school – it often marks the first time they start to travel without their parent or guardian.
The session was aimed at raising the pupils’ confidence in travelling independently and keeping them safe as they transition into secondary school, where they covered:
- The benefits of active travel
- Zip Oyster cards and ticketing
- Personal safety advice
- Journey planning
- Physical safety and risks
- How to get help
- Respect for fellow passengers and staff
Some of our pupils shared:
“It is really exciting that we will be getting our own Oyster cards to travel to school when we are in secondary school. I also love the holder we have been given.”
“I had no idea how much money was saved by having an Oyster.”
“The man from TfL was really funny and engaging.”
